Hands on Photography

with Ant Pruitt

Hands on Photography, part of the twit.tv network, with @ant_pruitt

It’s not often I get the chance to talk photography with one of my heros of the photographic world, Ant Pruitt! I was fortunate enough to be invited onto his weekly show to talk about pet photography, specifically the tips and tricks that will allow you to improve your images.

A most gracious host, Ant and I talked about my life as a photographer and how I got into dog photography before tackling some of the considerations for getting good images.

Whilst Ant gave me a chance to explain what is involved in taking great photos, we also talked through some examples of my past work. Ant is a funny guy who is a pleasure to listen to and who has covered a wealth of subjects within the wonderful world of photography. It was a great experience to be on his show and 45 minutes just flew by! Many thanks Ant and I look forward to being invited back to Hands on Photography sometime in the future.

My Three Loves

I was recently invited to shoot a Detection Dog Trial event at the amazing Boscome Down Aviation Collection at Old Sarum airfield. Georgie of K9 Brain training has a knack of picking wonderful location for her training and trial events and this was no exception.

Scenting a nuclear bomb!

I have shot these events at a wide variety of location from massive football stadiums. farmyards, grand stately home, local history museum and transport yards and Georgie seems to have an unending ability to find places that will test both the dog and the handler!

The location has an effect on both participants, canine and human and reflects the diverse places where they may be asked to work. As such, K9 Brain Training has a distinct advantage over the usual mundane locations offered to working dogs under training.

From a personal point of view, as an ex RAF pilot I was able to indulge my love of photography, dogs and aircraft all at the same time!

The day, as it has always been, was a great success with the animals finding a challenge in their environment that brought the best from the most able and a new set of experiences from those dogs new to this challenging task.
